Joseph Hubertus Pilates was born in Germany on December 9, 1883. Not much is known of his child's history, but he seems to have been a weak child suffering from asthma, rachytism and rheumatic fever. He could overcome these ailments by performing different sports such as gymnastics, diving or skiing. In 1912 he traveled to England to start working in a circus, at the beginning of World War I he was locked up in a concentration camp like many Germans. It was there that he began to develop his training method. At the end of the war he was already in an important position at the hospital on Mann Island, where he was able to work with serious injuries and mutilations. This was how he incorporated the docks and resistances into his method, and moved from Pilates MAT to Pilates of study, thus creating the CADILLAC, being an apparatus that has little need to change over time.
In 1918, a flu killed thousands of people in England, but no Pilates patient died. This reaffirmed the method in the eyes of the rest of his colleagues. Joseph returned to Germany to start working with dance professionals, when the German army claimed Joseph to teach his method to the soldiers, declined this offer and in 1927 he migrated to the United States, it was there that he met his wife Clara. They decided to set up a gym in the same building as the New York City Ballet, so it began its popularity in the world of dance, which in turn helped it to perfect the technique of its own method. It was in 1945 that he published his book "Return to Life Trough Contrology" thanks to what he left written, his wife and students, the method could be transmitted after his death.
Joseph Pilates died in 1967 at the age of 84. He never patented his method he called "Contrology." After his death, his wife, along with Romana Kryzanowska, continued work on the already consecrated "Pilates Studio" on the eighth avenue of New York. At that time, many of the disciples of Clara and Joseph opened Pilates' studies and maintained a very good relationship with Clara and Romana, until in the late 1980s one of these students patented the name of Pilates, forcing the rest of the studies to change their names from there that today they still sound like Body Control, Balance body and a long etc... as centers where the Pilates method is given. In 2000, the U.S. 's supreme rostrum felt that the name Pilates was general and that everyone could use that name. Today the sentence of which Roman has already predicted "that it could be the end of the purity of the method," remains, as anyone without a quality formation can say that he imparts the Pilates method.
Thanks to Romana and Clara, the New York studio is still open. Today we maintain real phrases of Joseph Pilates as a guide for our work. "Good physical condition is the first requirement for happiness" "Rome was not built in an hour, so patience and persistence are essential things in the achievement of anything worth it" "True faculty can only be achieved when the muscle is uniformly developed" "You are as young and as old as you feel.
If your rigid back is 20, then you're old, if you get it to be mobile and flexible with 70, then you'll keep keeping it young "" It would be a serious mistake to think that only exercise is enough to achieve complete physical well-being. The person who takes care of their food and sleep habits and who is properly exercised will be taking the best preventive medicine. "" The correct alignment and posture was only possible when the complete mechanism of body operation is under control "" Breathing is the first action we perform in life and the last.
A vague and incomplete breath over the disease "" "The first time" learn to breathe correctly. To improve the individual's breathing, it is subtly inspiring and exhaling. Only when you understand the functioning of the right breath can you properly transmit. "" The wrong habits in the day to day are responsible for most of the ailments. "
